My name is Moira Simpson. I am a freelance artist, educator, curator and writer based in the Adelaide Hills, South Australia where I have my studio and run a small arts business. Under the banner of Evocative Arts, I provide a range of products and services. To download a brochure, click here.

I also support the Independent Arts Foundation (IAF) which raises money to provide grants to emerging artists in South Australia...

Artwork and Arts Education: As an artist, I specialise in fibre arts, encaustic and three-dimensional art forms. I am a qualified teacher with experience of teaching in primary, secondary and tertiary settings, including sixteen years in teacher training. I have particular interest in cultural diversity in art education, teaching about the arts of non-western cultures, learning from objects and Visual Thinking Strategies. I teach art workshops in my studio and in art galleries and other venues in the Adelaide area, and am available for teaching in schools, universities, art guilds etc. Explore my website to see examples of my artwork and learn more about the workshops I teach and the visual presentations that I offer.
Writing and Editing: I am a freelance writer and editor. I edit and am a regular contributor to Textile Fibre Forum magazine as well as writing features on travel, food, and restaurants. I have also written extensively on museums and cultural diversity issues, including display and representation, cross-cultural learning, repatriation and cultural renewal in indigenous and First Nations communities in Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the USA. I am the author of Making Representations: Museums in the Post-Colnial Era, and Museums and Repatriation, as well as many articles in professional and academic journals, and chapters is edited books.
